Abstract

The Influence of Layer Composition and Cationic Starch Addition to Core Board Properties

 

Abstract

Core board is a multi-ply board used for coil or roll core of paper, cloth, or yarn. It is made of at
least two layers of 100 % secondary fibres at 395 – 455 g/m2 basis weight. In relation to development of papermachine speed, multi-ply board must meet the requirements of free
drainage and high strength. Those are influenced by chemicals and freeness of the stock. The experiment on core boardmaking has been done, using layers which high freeness and chemicals such as cationic starch and native starch. The results of experiment show that the core board which lower freeness layers (200 ml CSF) has higher strength. At the mean time, the using of cationic starch seen more economical than native starch.

Abstrak

Core board adalah karton multi lapis yang digunakan sebagai bahan baku pada pembuatan core atau coil untuk gulungan kertas, kain, atau benang. Core board memiliki gramatur 395-455 g/m2, terdiri dari sekurangkurangnya dua lapisan dan dibuat dari 100% serat sekunder. Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi mesin karton multi lapis terutama dalam hal kecepatannya, perhatian kini ditujukan pada bagaimana menciptakan lembaran karton multi lapis yang lebih mudah mengeluarkan air dan lebih tinggi sifat kekuatannya. Kecepatan drainase dan kekuatan lembaran diantaranya dipengaruhi oleh freeness stok dan penambahan bahan kimia pembantu (aditif) terutama bahan penguat kering. Pada penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan laju drainase, core board dibuat dengan memvariasikan komposisi lapisan dengan stok yang memiliki freeness lebih tinggi sedangkan penambahan aditif digunakan pati kationik sebagai bahan penguat kering yang hasilnya dibandingkan dengan penggunaan pati alam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposisi lapisan yang mengandung semakin banyak komponen dengan tingkat freeness rendah (200 ml CSF) menghasilkan core board dengan sifat kekuatan tinggi dan penambahan pati kationik sebagai bahan penguat kering dapat menghemat dosis penggunaan aditif dibandingkan dengan pati alam.
