Abstract

Burst index in independence parameter against basis weight and used for comparing burst strenght of different grammage papers. It is well known that burst indeks is not influinced by the grammage. But there is no informations that verified empirically the independency. Concerning this verification some kraft-liners have been tested in the laboratory. Thrree gades of craft-liners were sampled from 4 different paper mils in 4 different regions. The data is analized by least-square method to obtain the best fit of line between burst index and grammage. Analysis is done for within and between paper mills and for within and between grades fo kraft-liners. The result showed that the slope of the line between burst index and grammage for all data are zero or approximately zero. These result verified that burst index of the papers are not influenced by their basis weight absolutely.

INTISARI

Indeks retak adalah parameter bebas gramatur dan oleh sebab itu sering diguanakan untuk membandingkan sifat ketahanan retak kertas yang berbeda gramatur. Sudah sejak lama diketahui bahwa indeks retak tidak tergantung pada gramatur kertas. Tetapi pembuktian ketidaktergantungan parameter tersebut berdasarkan hasil-hasil pengujian amat jarang ditemukan. Untuk menyampaikan bukti-bukti tersebut, telah dilakukan pengujian kertas lainer yang berasal dari 4 pabrik yang berbeda masing masing dengan 3 macam gramatur. Selanjutnya dilakukan analisis kuadrat terkecil untuk mendapatkan garis lurus terbaik antara indeks retak dan gramatur. Analisis dilakukan untuk contoh uji dari satu pabrik mauoun antar pabrik, dan contoh uji sejenis maupun antar jenis. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa nilai gradien garis lurus antara indeks retak dan gramatur untuk semua data uju, adalah no atau mendekatu nol. Ini membuktikan bahwa indeks retak kertas yang diuji tidak tergantung pada gramatur.
